Seattle police are dismantling the self-styled Capitol Hill Organized Protest zone, or CHOP, probably ending a three-week stand-off between police and protesters who had declared the world a police-free zone.
Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan issued an government order early Wednesday morning for protesters to vacate the zone. Seattle police mentioned on Twitter that up to now there have been 13 arrests.
Ms. Durkan issued an emergency proclamation for the East Precinct and Cal Anderson Park space, calling the police-free zone an “illegal meeting.”
The progressive mayor as soon as predicted a “summer time of affection” within the zone.
