Defense Secretary Mark Esper will on Monday current to the White Home choices to cut back the U.S. navy presence in Germany by almost 10,000 troops in what could be a dramatic reshaping of the U.S. presence in Europe.
“Secretary Esper met with President Trump on Wednesday to debate our presence in Europe. On Monday the Secretary will temporary the President on the White Home on choices for our drive posture in Germany,” Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman mentioned in an announcement.
The Pentagon proposal would provide situations to deliver a few of these troops again to the U.S., rotate some round Europe and have others completely stationed in different elements of Europe, protection officers mentioned.
President Trump directed the Pentagon to cut back the U.S. troop presence in Germany by 9,500 from the 34,500 service members who’re completely assigned there. As many 52,000 U.S. troops are stationed in Germany at any given time.
